This 27”x20” hand burned mandalas is one I started last year. It was just the shape and color and I stared at it for months. About thirteen months into it I felt it needed something else. So I burned icons, symbols and characters into the geometry. I thought it looked better but not quite interesting enough. It was then I noticed that some of the initial wood from the plywood I burned this on was peeling away. At that point I felt like I just need to toss it into the Chic Firewood pile. Before that I started to peel it and it revealed some interesting character behind it. Much like you would see if you exposed the framework of an old home. Anyway, long story longer I took one of my sanders and removed the top layer of the plywood and it revealed the light and dark contrast. I topped it off with a distressed frame which I also adore. Anyway, thanks for reading! Oh, see if you can see the Morse Code repeated in one of the rings. It means Soul.
