This week I think I will tell you a bit about how to create a wood burned Mandala by hand.

1st I take my compasses and layout the circles as I like to start with something accurate. I sometimes texturize the wood with my grinder or my Wood Carver first.

2nd I follow over the lines with my wood burner.

3rd I add all of the detail free hand. I think it helps to create its own movement.

4th I cover the burn with 5-6 coats of a polycrylic protectant. This helps preserve the burn.

5th I cut the wood, glue it up, paint it and distress with sandpaper.
